Gritting crew & Farmers Work To Clear Dorset Roads

Ploughing and gritting of roads continued across Dorset yesterday (Monday 20 December) afternoon and into the evening. Local farmers have helped to clear the main routes and the county council is grateful for their efforts. The whole of the county council's winter salting network is passable this morning, although there may be restricted road width in some places.

Annette Brooke Takes Cancer Concerns To Number 10

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, led a delegation from the All Party Parliamentary Group on Breast Cancer to a meeting with the Prime Minister and Care Services Minister, Paul Burstow MP, on Wednesday last week to discuss issues around breast cancer. Co-Chairs of the group, Annette Brooke MP and Steve Brine MP joined representatives from Breast Cancer Care, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Campaign in voicing their concerns on a range of issues including collection of data on the numbers of people living with secondary (advanced) breast cancer and access to one-to-one support from Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Missing Person Appeal - Concern For West Moors Man

Dorset Police are appealing to the public for sightings or information concerning the whereabouts of Mr David Henry King, who has been reported missing by his mother. Mr King lives in the West Moors area and checked into the Thistle Hotel, Poole Quay during the afternoon of 17 December 2010. He subsequently attended a Christmas party at the nearby Antelope Public House with work colleagues.

Man Charged With Rape Caught In Southampton

A man wanted by police in connection with an alleged rape of a teenage girl has been arrested and charged following an appeal on BBC Crimewatch. Thomas Anthony Fleet was arrested on behalf of West Mercia Police by officers in Southampton, Hampshire on Dec 16, following information from members of the public. He was brought back to Shropshire and was last night charged with rape. He was due to appear before Telford Magistrates’ Court on Dec 17

Positive Response To Crimewatch Appeal - Rape Case

Police have had a positive response to a Crimewatch appeal regarding the whereabouts of a man named in connection with the rape of a teenage girl. Thomas Anthony Fleet, 22, is now believed to be living in southern England and is wanted in relation to an incident that happened in Shropshire in October last year (2009). A public appeal for information for his whereabouts featured on the BBC Crimewatch programme last night(DEC 14) and a number of calls with information have been received as a result.

Police Search For Rape Case Man

Police believe a man they have named in connection with the rape of a teenage girl, is now living in southern England. They say 22-year-old Thomas Anthony Fleet is wanted in relation to an incident which happened at a house in a Shropshire village during October last year (2009). His details and an appeal for public information were issued on the BBC Crimewatch programme on Tuesday night (Dec 14).

Barn Fire Near Dorchester - Witness Appeal

Police in Dorchester are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after an arson attack on a barn in the Maiden Newton area of the town. The incident, in which a fire caused significant damage to a barn along Chilfrome Lane and damaged livestock food, happened some time between 5.30pm and 8pm on Sunday, 12 December 2010. A number of calves, located in a nearby barn area, were evacuated by fire crews. The cost of the damage is believed to be approximately £10,000.

Warning! Long Delays In Corfe Castle

Long delays are to be expected in Corfe Castle today due to scaffolding erected on a property on the main road going down Castle hill. Delays do not seem to be too long heading in the direction of Swanage, but have been reported to be quite lengthy heading in the alternative direction, towards Wareham. Delays of up to 20 minutes can be expected during busy or peak times.

Council Clarifies Potential Wind Farm Position

Following last week’s Special Planning Board meeting where four wind turbines in Purbeck were discussed, Purbeck District Council has sought to clarify the current position. After much consideration at the meeting, Planning Board stated that it was mindful to grant planning consent subject to it agreeing to appropriate conditions being met. The Council has confirmed that a decision to either grant or refuse planning permission has not been taken at this stage. Officers are currently preparing conditions to minimise adverse effects, such as noise. Once that work has been done, Planning Board will consider whether they view that the conditions do minimise impact enough to grant permission.

Shooters Urged To Show Restraint In Cold Weather

Due to the widespread severe weather the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) is calling for all shooters in England and Wales to exercise restraint, wherever it is needed, in the shooting of ducks, geese and waders including reared mallard. Voluntary restraint in England and Wales should be applied where feeding or roosting is affected by snow and ice. Individuals should be on the look-out for unusual movements or behaviour of waterfowl which may be caused by the conditions. Calls for similar restraint have been in place in Scotland and Northern Ireland since last week.
