Further Appeal For Missing Bournemouth Man
Friend Of Missing Bournemouth Man Appeals For Help
A close friend of a missing Bournemouth man has issued an emotional appeal for help from the public – with detectives urging anyone with information regarding the man’s whereabouts to come forward.
Jurij Sliachtecov, a 21-year-old Lithuanian of St Peter’s Road, was reported missing just before 5pm on Sunday, 1 May 2011.
He was last seen on Friday, 29 April 2011 and police are gravely concerned for his welfare.
Julija Paskevica, a close friend of Jurij, said: “It goes without saying that Jurij’s disappearance is extremely upsetting for all of his family and friends, both back in Lithuania and also in the UK.
“We are all greatly concerned and want nothing more than to find out that he is safe.
“Jurij, we can understand if you are upset or having a rough time, but we just want to be sure that you are ok. You are very important to us all and it doesn’t matter whether you call a friend, your family, or a police officer, but please contact someone soon.”
Jurij is white, of Eastern European appearance, five feet six inches tall, of slim build and has short brown hair and is clean shaven. He normally wears jeans and a T-shirt.
He left his English bank cards and clothes behind but took his passport.
His friends originally believed that he may have returned to his native Lithuania, however subsequent contact with his family has established that this was not the case. In fact, Lithuanian authorities have now confirmed that he has not entered the country.
Julija continued: “I know that Jurij failed to contact his grandmother on 1 May – which is Lithuania’s mother’s day. He has never missed this date before and this is very unlike the Jurij that I know.
“His disappearance has been covered in the Lithuanian press and on TV and I am releasing this statement in the hope that the local community and media will do all they can to spread the word.”
Detective Constable Keith Palmer, of Bournemouth CID, added: “I am appealing for anyone who has seen Jurij, and anyone who may have any information as to his whereabouts, to contact police urgently.”
Anyone with any information or knowledge as to Jurij’s whereabouts should call Dorset Police on 01202 222 222, quoting incident number 01:382.
